Mogadishu, July 29, 2025

In a formal ceremony held today in Mogadishu, Hormuud Telecom and the international humanitarian organization Save the Children signed a landmark cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing communication and humanitarian services for Somali children and youth.

The high-profile event was attended by senior officials including the Second Deputy Prime Minister, ministers from the Federal Government of Somalia, the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), and other key national stakeholders.

The agreement is designed to provide Somali children, especially those in vulnerable and hard-to-reach areas, with access to modern communication tools and digital services. Key areas of focus include:

Emergency Alerts: Timely information dissemination about disasters, conflict situations, and other emergencies.

Digital Humanitarian Aid Access: Streamlining aid delivery through digital platforms for greater efficiency and transparency.

Online Education: Providing learning opportunities for children without access to formal education systems.

Youth Employment: Creating job opportunities for Somali youth, particularly those with digital and technological skills, through Hormuud Telecom’s growing initiatives.

This partnership directly supports the Federal Government’s National Transformation Plan (NTP), which prioritizes the integration of technology and private sector partnerships to deliver quality services across Somalia.

Speaking at the event, SoDMA Commissioner Mr. Mahamud Moallim Abdule welcomed the initiative, calling it “a vital step forward in linking humanitarian goals with private sector innovation.” He emphasized that the collaboration represents a model of how business and humanitarian sectors can join forces to expand life-saving services and open new pathways of hope for Somali children.

Representatives from both Hormuud Telecom and Save the Children expressed their commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the agreement, noting that the initiative will not only improve service delivery but also build long-term resilience among communities across the country.

This collaboration sets a new precedent for how local companies and global partners can work together to drive inclusive, tech-driven humanitarian solutions in Somalia.
