The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) held a productive monthly briefing in Mogadishu to address the ongoing humanitarian situation in the country. Co-chaired by SoDMA Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim and the UN’s Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, George Conway, the meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the head of OCHA Somalia and technical experts from SoDMA.
The discussions focused on overcoming financial challenges impacting emergency services, particularly the decline in donor funding. Participants explored innovative solutions and strategies to optimize ongoing operations and projects, ensuring the continuity of critical services despite the constrained funding environment.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhanced cooperation and coordination of humanitarian efforts across Somalia. SoDMA emphasized its dedication to working with global partners to build a resilient humanitarian system capable of addressing the country’s complex challenges effectively.
