Call for Papers
The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and Mogadishu University are pleased to announce the 2nd Somalia Disaster Resilience Conference, focusing on the theme “Building Disaster Resilience Through Community-Based Approaches.” This year’s conference aims to
amplify grassroots strategies for disaster resilience by exploring community-led practices, innovations, and local capacities. Researchers are invited to submit abstracts that align with the conference theme and promote evidence-based recommendations for policy and practice in
Somalia and beyond.
This conference is a product of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and Mogadishu University, which aims to foster academic collaboration and joint research initiatives. It directly supports SoDMA’s Strategic
Objective 4 (2024–2029): “Research the top five recurring disasters in Somalia by 2025 and develop targeted strategies.” Additionally, it aligns with Mogadishu University’s Strategic Objective 4 (2021–2025) under Strategic Goal 9: “Enhancing Research Utilization for Societal
Impact,” which seeks to strengthen the use of research to generate meaningful benefits for
society.
The conference plays a pivotal role in advancing this objective by serving as a platform for knowledge exchange and innovative disaster research focused on the Somali context.
