The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Hussein Ali Haji, together with the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, and the Director General of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Suleiman Sheikh Omar, today launched the Somalia Financial Resilience-Building Project in Mogadishu.

The project aims to strengthen Somalia’s capacity to prevent and manage climate-related and disaster risks, while enhancing the country’s financial resilience to climate shocks and emergencies.

Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle emphasized that strengthening financial resilience is essential to Somalia’s ability to effectively respond to disasters and risks associated with climate change.

The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of establishing a financial mechanism that enables the government to respond rapidly to disasters while reducing their economic and humanitarian impacts on communities.

In conclusion, Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle thanked the African Development Bank (AfDB) and other partners supporting the project, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in strengthening Somalia’s resilience and reducing the impacts of disasters.
