The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) today convened a meeting with Somalia’s health sector, bringing together representatives from both public and private healthcare institutions to strengthen preparedness for the potential health impacts of the floods forecast to affect parts of the country as a result of Super El Niño.

The meeting focused on enhancing coordination and establishing a unified framework for delivering rapid emergency medical assistance to areas expected to be affected by flooding.

Speaking at the meeting, the Head of Projects at Somali Disaster Management Agency, Dr. Ismail Jimcaale, emphasized that the gathering was critical to strengthening coordination within the health sector and improving preparedness to address the anticipated public health consequences of the forecast floods.

Also addressing the meeting were Dr. Luul Mohamed Mahmoud, Chairperson of the Somali Medical Association, and Dr. Mohamed Abdullahi Galadiid, Chairperson of the Union of Private Hospitals. Both stressed the importance of close collaboration and coordinated efforts to ensure a rapid medical response and effective preparedness during emergencies.

The meeting forms part of a series of consultations organized by Somali Disaster Management Agency to accelerate national preparedness and mitigate the impacts of Super El Niño, while strengthening cooperation among relevant institutions to reduce flood-related risks.
