Mogadishu, June 27, 2026: The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, accompanied by several Ministers of Humanitarian Affairs from the Federal Member States, today held a farewell ceremony in Mogadishu for 25 officers from Somali Disaster Management Agency and the Humanitarian Affairs Ministries of the Federal Member States. The officers will travel to the China to undertake specialized training on flood preparedness, prevention, and response.
The officers are being deployed for the training as Somalia prepares for the forecasted Deyr rainy season associated with the anticipated Super El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to increase the risk of flooding and flash floods in parts of the country.
In his remarks, Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle urged the officers to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and patriotism throughout the training. He also encouraged them to share the knowledge and skills they acquire with their respective institutions upon their return, thereby strengthening Somalia’s national capacity for disaster preparedness and response, particularly in managing flood-related emergencies.
