The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs of the South West State, today launched a one-week water trucking operation in the city of Baidoa to support communities affected by the severe drought currently impacting the country. The assistance targets residents living within the city as well as nearby villages.

The water-trucking initiative was officially launched by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs of South West State, Abdullahi Isaaq Macalin (Wasiir Ganeey). The operation focuses on delivering clean water to both people and livestock living in areas experiencing acute water shortages. Specially designated water-trucking vehicles are being used to transport the water in order to help reduce the severe impact of drought on the livelihoods of local communities.

On the same day, several water trucks delivered water to some neighborhoods of Baidoa and surrounding villages, where residents have been facing serious hardship due to lack of water.

The Assistant to the Commissioner of SoDMA, Abdirahman Mohamed Hussein, stated that the water-trucking operation will continue as long as the need persists, emphasizing that SoDMA will maintain its efforts to support communities affected by drought.
