Mother Fadumo is an 80-year-old woman who has lost her eyesight. She lives in areas under the Mudug region, where the drought has severely affected communities.
She explained that due to the failure of the Gu and Deyr rainy seasons this year, the livestock on which their livelihood depended have largely perished. She said that out of 120 goats and about 40 young ones, only 18 animals remain.
When traveling through this area, the effects of the drought are clearly visible. The carcasses of livestock are scattered everywhere. The land is dry and barren, with no green vegetation or trees where animals can graze.
According to estimates, more than 1.5 million people have been severely affected by this devastating drought that has struck many parts of the country.
