Dr. Abas Omar Mohamed, a Ph.D. holder in Economics and Director of the Research Center at Mogadishu University, presented a research paper at the 2nd Somalia Disaster Resilience Conference titled “The Role of Economic Resilience Strategies in Addressing Recurrent Disasters in Somalia.”
In his presentation, Dr. Abas emphasized the crucial role of strong institutions, sustainable economic growth, and inclusive development in mitigating the impact of recurring disasters. He highlighted that building economic resilience is not only vital for disaster response but also a cornerstone for long-term stability, food security, and national recovery.
His research called for coordinated policies between government institutions, academia, and the private sector to strengthen Somalia’s economic capacity to withstand shocks and ensure a sustainable path toward resilience and prosperity.
