Mogadishu-The Minister of Petroleum and Minerals of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Daahir Shire Mohamed, who delivered a brief speech at the 2nd Somalia Disaster Resilience Conference, said that SoDMA and the University of Mogadishu jointly deserve praise for their continuous efforts to reduce the impact of disasters in the country. The Minister noted that the conference highlights the importance of the Somali community’s self-determination, and the collaboration between government and academic institutions, to create a society that is resilient to disasters.
The conference, jointly organized by SoDMA and the University of Mogadishu, presented plans that are widely supported by the community, as they are based on research and real analysis to address disasters and calamities in the country. These plans include ways to reduce humanitarian risks, develop effective disaster management systems, and foster cooperation between government and international agencies.
