Mogadishu-The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Authority, Mr. Mahmoud Abdulle, who delivered a brief speech at the Commissioner opening of the 2nd Somali Disaster Risk Research Conference, noted the achievements of last year’s Research Conference held from 6 to 7 November 2024, which laid the foundation for encouraging scientific research and evidence-based debate on disaster risk management in the country.

The Commissioner pointed out that this conference teaches us how the power of our nation is not limited to government institutions alone, but also includes the various communities, which are always at the forefront of preparing for, responding to disaster risks, recovering from and ensuring a society with sustainable resilience.

Commissioner Mahmoud, who expressed his gratitude to Mogadishu University, the leaders and other participants of the conference, also noted the need to redouble our efforts towards disaster risk reduction and building a resilient society, so that it becomes a national and social culture, rather than the implementation of a specific project.
