The Director General of the Somali NGO Consortium, Ms. Nimo Hassan, delivered a compelling message during her remarks at the Country Humanitarian Forum (CHF 2025), held in Baidoa, calling for stronger and more meaningful collaboration between humanitarian actors and the Somali government.
Speaking at the high-level forum, Ms. Nimo underscored that lasting progress in humanitarian efforts depends on a united approach that respects and aligns with the leadership, systems, and long-term vision of the Somali government.
Her remarks resonated with the forum’s theme: “Driving Localized, Inclusive, and Resilient Humanitarian Action Amid Rising Needs in Somalia.” Ms. Nimo emphasized that the success of humanitarian and development work hinges on local ownership and accountability, highlighting that respecting national frameworks is not just about coordination, but about empowering the Somali people to shape their future.
The CHF 2025 brings together government leaders, humanitarian agencies, civil society, and international partners to address Somalia’s evolving humanitarian challenges, including protracted displacement, climate shocks, and resource constraints. Ms. Nimo’s call for unified action added momentum to ongoing discussions about shifting from emergency response to long-term, community-driven recovery and resilience.
Her message reflected a growing consensus among stakeholders that humanitarian action in Somalia must prioritize local leadership and systemic collaboration to meet the rising needs of vulnerable populations across the country.
