The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, accompanied by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and the Minister of Women of South West State, today received the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative to Somalia, Mr. Etienne Peterschmitt, in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on Somalia’s humanitarian situation, preparedness for Super El Niño, and efforts to deliver assistance to communities that continue to face humanitarian challenges.
The two sides emphasized accelerating efforts to prevent and mitigate flooding, particularly by strengthening river defenses and reinforcing vulnerable sections along the riverbanks.
The SoDMA Commissioner also briefed the FAO Representative on his recent visit to Hiiraan Region, one of the areas most vulnerable to flooding, and called for coordinated efforts to protect communities and their property.
