The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, inspected the Shabelle River and areas vulnerable to flooding during his working visit to Beledweyne, Hiiraan Region.

The inspection assessed the river’s water level and the condition of areas at risk of flooding, with a focus on strengthening preparedness and preventing potential flood-related risks.

Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle urged the authorities and communities in Beledweyne to take measures to reinforce and close vulnerable points along the riverbank in order to prevent flooding and minimize potential losses and damage.

The visit comes at a time when the anticipated impacts of Super El Niño are expected to significantly affect areas located along Somalia’s river systems.
